Blizzard Cocktail - Warm in Winter

Blizzard cocktail ingredients
You gotta have a cocktail or two for New Years! Champagne gives me a headache and I rarely make it to midnight anyway, so the search was on for a good adult beverage for our small party. It's called the Blizzard, which seems an appropriate name - although I could do without any actual blizzards this year, thank you very much.

This is a simple, 4 ingredient cocktail, served in a highball glass. The measurements are odd - I've never seen a cocktail recipe measured in tablespoons before! - but nothing else is out of the ordinary.

4 1/2 tbsp bourbon (we used Makers Mark)
1 1/2 tbsp cranberry juice
1 tbps lemon juice
2 tbps simple syrup (make with equal parts sugar and water, boil til sugar is dissolved and cool)

cocktail shaker
The recipe didn't specify cranberry juice cocktail, so we used 100% cranberry juice.

Put all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake well.
Pour into a highball glass with ice.

Garnish with lemon.

We made the first one exactly as the recipe said. My husband took the first sip, and said, "WOW, it's like a whiskey sour. Sour." It was really sour! He added some more simple syrup and it was good. I made mine with about 3/4 tbsp of lemon juice, and it was better. We are wondering if maybe they used cranberry juice cocktail, which is a lot sweeter, instead of 100% cranberry juice. Or else we just had really tart lemons!

RP SERVINGS: It makes 1 cocktail per recipe.

RATING: 3 stars with the lemon juice tweak
This isn't a favorite, but it's good. It's not too different than an Old Fashioned, and you could use an orange wedge instead of lemon successfully, I think. Since 4 tbsp is 1/4c, we suggest using a measuring cup or jigger instead of worrying about tablespoons, which was messy. (1 tbsp = 1/2 oz, 2 tbsp = 1 oz, etc)
